You’ve already applied to the Marygrove MAT program, and you’re ready to begin the financial aid process. Let’s get started. [Haven’t applied to the MAT program? Click here.]
[Please note: If you have been accepted to the MAT program, but have not received an email and WebAdvisor account, please contact an Enrollment Counselor: 877.984.7277]
The following four-step guide will walk you through the Financial Aid process.
For important information you need to know, before beginning the FAFSA, [Click here].

 |
STEP 1 Apply for Federal Student Aid |
| The first step is to complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. When prompted, make sure to enter the Marygrove College school identification code [002284], so that a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) can be sent to Marygrove. Proceed to step 2 after completing the following steps: |

You must renew your FAFSA by March 1 if you have previously filed a FAFSA. |
| |
• |
Be sure to use your previous pin number. |
| |
• |
If you have forgotten your pin, you may request a duplicate pin. |
| |
• |
Finish and submit your FAFSA. |
| |
|

STEP 2 Review Student Aid Report (SAR) |
Approximately two weeks after submitting your FAFSA, you will receive a copy of your SAR via email. Marygrove will also receive a copy of your SAR. If you are admitted to the MAT program, Marygrove will email you at your Marygrove email address regarding any missing documents. If your application is being reviewed and you are not yet admitted to the MAT program, you may check the status of your FAFSA application at the FAFSA website: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Once all documents have been received by Marygrove, you will be notified of your award at your Marygrove email account. [If you do not have or know your Marygrove email account, please check your admittance packet or contact 877.984.7277.] You are ready to proceed to step 3 after the following steps are complete. [click here to expand]
|
 |
• |
Receive SAR, via personal email account, from federal government. |
 |
• |
Review your SAR. If your SAR requires you to make corrections through the FAFSA website, you will be directed to do so. If you have been accepted to Marygrove, they will also contact you at your Marygrove email account with instructions. |
| |
• |
Marygrove will review your SAR. As long as there are no missing documents or errors, Marygrove will confirm receipt of your SAR via your Marygrove email account. Proceed to step three. |
 |
• |
If you receive a message from Marygrove indicating that you are ‘missing documents’, you will need to provide the missing documentation before the process can continue. To troubleshoot missing documents, click here. |
| |
• |
After all ‘missing documents’ have been submitted to Marygrove, and you have received an email confirming that there are no missing documents, proceed to step three. |
| |
|
 |
STEP 3 Accept Award & Begin Loan Processing |
| About two weeks after you have received confirmation from Marygrove that all of your financial aid documents have been received, you will be notified via your Marygrove email account that your award is ready to view and accept. You will need to complete the following steps before the funds are transferred to your account: [click here to expand] |
 |
STEP 4 Receive Loan Approval Notice |
| In the final step, Marygrove will certify your loan and transfer funds into your student account. This requires no action on your part, however you will want to watch for an email to your Marygrove account, confirming these steps have taken place. Read more: [click here to expand] |
| |
• |
Marygrove will certify your loan. Until the loan has been certified, your loan status on WebAdvisor will read ‘Loan Pending’ or ‘P’. Loan certification takes approximately 3-5 days. The status of your loan may continue to read ‘P’ until after the add/drop period. |
| |
• |
Loans are disbursed each semester after the add/drop period. You will receive notice that your loan has been approved and disbursed to your student account. This notice will be sent to your Marygrove email account. You have 30 days to cancel the loan. |
| |
• |
Once the loan has been disbursed to your student account to cover your tuition costs, any remaining loan amount will be refunded to your student account within 2-6 weeks after the start of classes. Your award will be disbursed by semester. |

You are considered a 'First Time Borrower' if you have never received a Stafford or Direct Loan (as an Undergraduate or a Graduate student). This means you are required to complete Entrance Loan Counseling.
The overall process, from submitting your FAFSA to receiving funds, generally takes 4-8 weeks depending upon the volume of applications and accuracy of the application. Be sure to complete the FAFSA application in its entirety.
The sooner you apply for financial aid, the better your chances of receiving aid.
Returning student borrowers:
We recommend you borrow from your previous lender. If you choose a new lender, you will be required to complete a new EMPN.
If you wish to reduce the amount of your award, you must contact the Marygrove Financial Aid Department:
mfao@marygrove.edu.
You may begin loan processing before you have been awarded financial aid. However, you must still accept your loan award on Marygrove’s WebAdvisor to complete the process.
If you are missing documents and you are a first time borrower:
You must complete entrance loan counseling.
If you are missing documents and you have completed loan counseling, go to WebAdvisor, click ‘my documents’ [in the financial aid section] and check for missing documents. Submit any missing documents to Marygrove, in order for the financial aid process to proceed.
If ‘C’ by EFC [Expected Family Contribution]: The SAR needs corrections.
If * is displayed by EFC: you’ve been chosen for ‘verification’. [Marygrove will request documentation to support the information submitted on your FAFSA.
Expect to wait approximately 2-3 weeks if receiving SAR by mail, and 1 week if by email.
If you have applied as an undergrad, you are still considered as ‘renewing’ your FAFSA, when applying as a graduate.
You may ‘renew’ your FAFSA no matter how long it has been since your original application.
You are limited to a lifetime total of $138,000 in federal aid.
The following may exclude you from receiving federal aid:
- Exhausted total loan eligibility ($138,000)
- Have previously filed bankruptcy
- Defaulted on a previous
student loan
- Enrolled less than half time
- Over limit for loans
